I took one look at that and my colon had an out-of-body experience. It was very angry.

That looks delicious though.

Yes but what is the correct color of red for a chicken parm?

This looks suspiciously like General Tso’s chicken to me.

So, what dish is this? I’ve honestly never seen a thai dish of breaded chicken with a shiny red sauce like this.

Ok, well I really don’t want to be pedantic, but I live in a heavily Asian area, you’re calling this the “correct” way to have Thai food, and this doesn’t look like a recognizable Thai dish to me.

The closest actual Thai dish I know of is the fried version of khao man gai. It’s rice cooked in chicken fat with a sliced up steamed or fried marinated chicken breast and a side of sweet chili sauce. A few places around here with “street food” sections of their menus serve this.

There’s a chef-y, sorta authentic Thai place near me that plays around with traditional dishes and they have a couple things that involve glazed fried chicken, one of which is just called spicy crispy chicken, and the other they call “chicken little’s treasure,” which has walnuts, peppers, etc in it.

Kinja'd!!!

The emphasis with basically all Thai fried chicken is on crispiness and either sauce on the side, or a glaze where the crispiness is maintained.

I’m sure you ordered whatever this is with a ton of spiciness to it, but...battered fried chicken swimming in a puddle of bright red gloop = General Tso.

Ok, well I will be pedantic, but I live in a very multicultural area, I’m calling this the “correct” color of Thai food, and this came from a recognizable Thai restaurant near me . I’m sorry if what the Thai restaurant calls this offends you, but food that comes  from a Thai restaurant  = Thai food.

Look, I’m not trying to play “who’s more authentic” here. The population of my little city of Rockville, MD just outside of DC is 20% Asian. The Asian food here is more authentic than many other places in the country or even in the DC area. I’m not saying this to boost my Asian food cred, just trying to give you an idea of my frame of reference .

Many restaurants that are nominally of some other nationality serve Americanized versions of that country’s food. General Tso’s chicken is Americanized Chinese food.

I’m sure you got this at a Thai restaurant, but it looks for all the world to me like some kind of Americanized interpretation of something.

Yeah, as delicious as that looks - and I will happily eat every ounce of that serving - nothing about that picture looks like a thai dish to me.

Exactly. I don’t want to bag on anyone’s food that excites them unless it’s truly horrid. This is not that, but gloopy neon red sauce like this is not “correct” Thai food.

The home style tofu at a super good Sichuan Chinese place near me kinda has that red hue but it’s a little less manufactured looking.
